Abstract/Notes

Objective: To describe the presentation of lower extremity blood clots in a chiropractic patient recovering from COVID-19.

Clinical Features: A 47-year-old female with a previous left ankle injury had significant swelling and edema around her left ankle and posterior lower leg. The pain was constant and described as aching, throbbing, and tight. All ankle ranges of motion were painful and reduced by 50%. History revealed the complaint began following 2 weeks of bedrest after experiencing COVID-19.

Intervention and Outcome: The patient was referred for Doppler ultrasound examination of the left leg. Ultrasound revealed extensive deep-vein thrombosis and she was treated with anticoagulants.

Conclusion: Understanding the relationship between COVID-19 and blood clots is crucial for clinicians due to the potential thrombotic complications associated with the virus. Practitioners must be aware of the potential for further complications, including blood clots, in the post-COVID patient.
