Objective: To describe the reduction of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) in a patient utilizing Thompson protocol and Chiropractic Biophysics mirror image exercises.
Clinical Features: The patient was a fourteen-year-old female with a history of scoliosis and pelvic distortion. Objective indicators of spinal subluxation were identified during the physical examination and via radiography. The scoliotic curve was measured at 17.2 degrees using the Cobb method.
Interventions and Outcomes: Thompson protocol along with mirror image exercises and associated stretching and strengthening exercises to reduce vertebral subluxations were utilized. After approximately 3 months of care, post radiographs revealed a reduction in the scoliotic curve to 13.5 degrees.
Conclusion: A 14 year old female with AIS was under care for 13 weeks, which consisted of 15 adjustments. Pre and post radiographs revealed a reduction in the Cobb angle. The left head rotation, right head tilt, and the right high shoulder resolved, but the pelvic distortion did not. More research is warranted to support these methods.
