It is hoped that chiropractic will be included in museum documentations of health care. The design of such exhibits requires discussion and concern on the part of the historians of chiropractic. Exhibits must not be allowed to become cluttered displays of curios in the tradition of Robert Ripley. They must be planned to show chiropractors at a time when they struggled as "peasants" in a medical fiefdom. They must contribute to a present and future awareness of the proper role of chiropractors in modern society. Above all, the profession itself must be involved in the design of such exhibits. Historians of chiropractic have an obligation to the profession, but also to the nation as a whole, for chiropractic is America's most original contribution in the emergence of modern health care.
