This paper discusses the objectives and current status of an urban chiropractic history project--Project D.C./D.C. Founded in 1981 by a chiropractor and an anthropologist, Project D.C./D.C. seeks to identify, collect, analyze and publicize the history of chiropractic in Washington, D.C. Its secondary goals are to generate public knowledge of and respect for the profession, and to contribute to the dialogue on the future of health care delivery in the United States. The authors report on initial data searches, compilation of primary and secondary sources, preliminary conclusions and further objectives. Particular attention will focus on presenting findings to both chiropractic and general audiences, maintaining archives for other interested scholars and promoting the inclusion of this and similar work in public collections.
