Abstract/Notes The author examined the portrayal of chiropractors in cartoons published in non-chiropractic sources within the United States. A total of 162 cartoons published during the period 1910 to 2010 were analyzed chronologically and topically. The author analyzed the appearance, behavior, treatment methods and efficacy of the chiropractor as depicted in the cartoon, and determined that there had been a change in the way chiropractic was presented in the cartoon medium. The author determined there was a pattern of less negativity (50% to 45%) toward chiropractic as a profession and more acceptance of chiropractic. Many of the cartoons (54) dealt with the causes of patients’ complaints, 25 were a play on words, and 29 referred to procedures used by a chiropractor. Other categories included sounds produced during an adjustment (12), types of spines (11), name calling or prejudice (5), and results obtained (4).
