Abstract/Notes In 1998, about 14,000 bariatric surgical procedures were performed in the United States. By 2003, that figure had risen to more than 100,000, according to a study published in the October 19 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. That's more than a sevenfold increase in just 5 years. If that rate of growth continues, bariatric surgery figures for 2005 should top 130,000. Predictions call for as many as 210,000 such procedures a year by 2010.

Considering those numbers, more and more doctors of chiropractic will encounter patients who have had some type of weight-loss surgery in the recent past. This article talks about what a DC needs to consider before attempting an ajustment on such patients.
