Abstract/Notes

Objective: To describe the chiropractic care of an adult medically diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

Clinical Features:  A 34-year-old female patient medically diagnosed with cystic fibrosis presented for chiropractic care with complaints of difficulty breathing, chronic infections, antibiotic use, sleep disturbance and overall poor quality of life.

Intervention and Outcome: The patient was cared for with Diversified and Thompson Technique to reduce vertebral subluxations. The patient reported decreased use of antibiotic use after 6 months of chiropractic care as well as improvement in her quality of life with improved breathing, sleeping, and decreased incidence of recurrent infections. Benefits with chiropractic care were correlated with changes/improvements in paraspinal thermography scans after 1 year of consistent chiropractic care.

Conclusion: The chiropractic care of an adult CF sufferer was described with resulting in improvements in her CF symptoms and overall quality of life. We support documentation of the benefits of chiropractic care in similar patients to inform clinical care and research.
