Abstract/Notes

Objective: To describe the chiropractic care of a patient presenting with long-standing vertigo, headaches, left-sided weakness and involuntary swaying from side to side.

Clinical Features: The patient was a 41-year-old female whose complaints have been “on and off” for years with the latest onset occurring a month prior. Her complaints have severely affected her quality of life. Palliative or provocative maneuvers were nonexistent. The patient’s complaints of vertigo and left-sided weakness are constant throughout the day or night. Medical consultations with a General Practitioner and three Neurologists provided no relief.

Intervention and Outcome: The patient was cared for with chiropractic care utilizing the Gonstead Technique. Immediately following the first adjustment, the patient’s vertigo ceased with relief of her headaches and the left-sided weakness and associated swaying.

Conclusion: This case report provides supporting evidence that patients presenting with symptoms of vertigo may benefit from chiropractic care.
