Abstract/Notes

Objective: Sporadic Hemiplegic Migraine (SHM) is a rare subtype of migraine. This case report reveals subluxations in a patient that has been suffering from migraines since age 17.

Clinical Features: A 36-year-old female presented with a history of hemiplegic migraine (HM) with numbness and paralysis on the left side of her body including her face. Prescription medications included Topomax and Celexa. The chiropractic examination revealed subluxations of the lower cervical, upper thoracic, and pelvic regions.

Intervention and Outcomes: Diversified technique was utilized on C7, T1, and the right ilium. The patient was seen a total of 4 times and follow up reporting revealed resolution of her migraines.

Conclusion: This case describes chiropractic in a rare form of headache that is very debilitating. There are no studies in the chiropractic literature on Hemiplegic Migraine. Additional research is needed on the chiropractic and HM to raise awareness of this condition.
