Abstract/Notes

Objective: The purpose of this case study is to describe the positive health outcomes of a child with chronic constipation, diurnal enuresis (DE) and nocturnal enuresis (NE) undergoing chiropractic care for management of vertebral subluxation.

Clinical Features: A 9-year-old child presented to a chiropractic clinic for evaluation of persistent daytime and nighttime bed wetting as well as prolonged constipation. Postural abnormalities, vertebral subluxations and dysautonomia were found upon examination, surface electromyography and thermography.

Intervention and Outcomes: The patient received high velocity; low amplitude adjustments of Toggle Recoil technique to the C1 vertebra and Thompson drop table technique to the sacrum. Diversified technique adjustments were also applied to all other sites of vertebral subluxation over a 7-month period. After receiving the first adjustment the patient reported multiple bowel movements as well as cessation of enuresis for three consecutive nights. The patient was continually evaluated in the cervical, thoracic and lumbosacral regions and adjusted when appropriate.

Conclusion: The patient reported no daytime or nighttime loss of urine control as well as one to two bowel movements per day after receiving specific chiropractic care. This case study provides evidence that chiropractic care can be beneficial in the management of patients with enuresis and constipation.
