Abstract/Notes

Minora C. Paxson is perhaps second only to Mabel Palmer among well-known early women in chiropractic. She is often incorrectly identified as the first female chiropractor, even though she was the third female woman to study under D.D. Palmer. Her name recognition among the profession is largely attributable to her involvement with Oakley Smith and Solon Langworthy as a co-author of the two-volume 1906 text, Modernized chiropractic. She was chiropractic school faculty and cited as the first chiropractor ever to receive a license to practice. Aside from these details, little else is known of Paxson and she is essentially absent from chiropractic history after 1906. The authors fill in more details of her life both before and after her surprisingly short three-year involvement in chiropractic.
