Title Improvement in cervical kyphosis using the Pierce Result System™ after post-surgical fusion [case report]
Journal Ann Vert Sublux Res. 2016 Spring;2016(2):Online access only p 32-44
Peer Review Yes
Publication Type Case Report

Objective: This paper presents the chiropractic management and care of a 43-year-old female with vertebral subluxation, postural abnormalities and post-surgical fusion of the 6th and 7th cervical vertebrae.

Clinical Features: The patient presented to the private practice and a thorough history and examination including analysis of instrumentation, x-rays and videofluoroscopy using the Pierce Results System™ (PRS™) was performed. A cervical kyphosis was found along with several vertebral subluxations. She sought out a chiropractor because the post-surgical outcome was not as favorable as she expected.

Intervention and Outcome: Using the PRS™ of analysis, the patient was seen nine times in just over one month, and was only adjusted six times, only two of which were cervical adjustments. At the re-examination approximately one month after beginning care, she had an improvement in cervical kyphosis changing from -28 cm to -150 cm. The patient received no traction, nor did she perform any corrective exercises. Subjectively the patient responded to care very well with a reduction in neck and back pain.

Conclusion: Chiropractic management using the PRS™ allowed for minimal care while providing quantifiable objective results by only managing vertebral subluxation. No other modalities or treatments were needed to achieve substantial improvements in her cervical curve in a relatively brief amount of time. This is a case most practitioners would either avoid treating or expect marginal change or improvement.
