Abstract/Notes

Objective: The objective of this paper is to describe a possible immunological response following chiropractic care of a patient with musculoskeletal and acute febrile illness related symptoms.

Clinical Features:  An 11-year-old male had acute illness symptoms for five days including fever, fatigue, and disposition changes as well as muscle tension, neck pain, and headache with medical diagnosis of unspecified acute upper respiratory infection.  He underwent medical bacterial screenings and pharmaceutical intervention of 250mg of amoxicillin without change to illness or musculoskeletal symptoms.

Intervention and Outcome:  The patient was managed with chiropractic adjustments characterized as instrument-assisted adjustments directed to the cervical spine and high velocity, low amplitude thrusts directed to the thoracic and lumbar spine.  The patient had resolution of fever symptoms as well as musculoskeletal symptoms approximately 60 minutes after one visit.

Conclusion: This patient with musculoskeletal symptoms resulting from acute illness showed favorable secondary effects including resolution of fever following chiropractic adjustment.
