Abstract/Notes

Objective: To describe the chiropractic care of a pregnant patient with low back pain, peripheral neuropathy and lower extremity swelling.

Clinical Features: A-28-year- old nulliparous woman (BMI = 36) presented for chiropractic consultation and possible care at 33 weeks of gestation with a chief complaint of tingling and numbness in the second through fourth fingers on her right hand. She also reported low back pain and concurrent swelling in her right leg and had a history of endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and two miscarriages.

Intervention and Outcome: The patient was scheduled twice a week for 9 visits.  She received care consisting of spinal and extraspinal chiropractic adjustments characterized as high velocity, low amplitude thrusts to sites of subluxations. The patient’s presenting complaints resolved with a trial of care.

Conclusion: This case report provides supporting evidence on the effectiveness of chiropractic as described in the care of a pregnant woman.
