Abstract/Notes

Microbial strains exert effects on the human organism. Positive effects are said to be the result of probiotic strains and negative effects are resultant of pathogenic strains. Collectively both types of microorganisms exert effects on the centralized gastrointestinal system. Both commensal and opportunistic organisms can impact the host peripherally or outside the confines of the gastrointestinal (CI) lumens via immune, infectious or inflammatory actions.
