Abstract/Notes

A novel herbal supplement containing the herbs, Hippophae rhamnoides and Rhodiola cremdata, shows very promising applications for cardiovascular health, lung health, mitochondrial function, energy and hypoxia. Rhodiola has been traditionally used for hypoxia and for altitude sickness.'"

Hippophae, as well, has known traditional uses for cardiovascular health, particularly for lipids and inflammation. In combination with Hippophae, it has even more benefits. One of its main active
compounds, trilinolein, is extracted from Hippophae. Each molecule of trilinolein contains three long-chain fatty acids (Figure 1 ). Fatty acids are considered as anti-inflammatory mediators. Commonly known fatty acids like FPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), both contained in flsh oil, each have only one fatty acid chain. Recent studies have discovered the herbal formula's anti-inflammatory properties, specifically in reducing C-reactive protein (CRP).
