Abstract/Notes

Absence of a lumbar pedicle is usually the result of neoplastic disease.  Occasionally the cause is a congenital absence of the pedicle.  Hypertrophy and sclerosis of the contralateral pedicle along with anomalous attachment of a small ipsilateral TP to the posteriorlateral margin of the vertebral body helps differentiate this from neoplastic disease.
