Abstract/Notes

Through personal interviews and correspondence, the author investigates the career of Dr. John De Finney. During his academic training, De Finney distinguished himself as editor of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College's (CMCC) The Forum, co-founded the CMCC College Shop, and coordinated the college's intramural sports program. On the athletic field, De Finney excelled in service to many athletic teams and further spawned his involvement in the growing chiropractic sports medicine movement in Canada and the development of the Canadian Chiropractic Sports Academy (now the Royal College of Sports Sciences [Canada]). De Finney was also an avid educator, authoring articles, speaking at numerous continuing education functions and mentoring young Canadian chiropractors. Later, De Finney was called upon to serve his alma mater raising monies to improve the campus and facilities. As a capstone, De Finney was elected to the CMCC's Board of Governors, giving him the opportunity to continue serving his profession and influencing the educational and professional legacy of the CMCC.
