Title Diagnostic corner. An integrative chiropractic approach to temporomandibular disorders
Journal DC Tracts. 2011 Winter;23(4):4-12
Peer Review Yes
Publication Type Article

Chiropractors frequently diagnose and manage patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain. This condition is frequently connected to a large variety of other functional health problems. Recognition that the TMJ is a neuromuscular system allows physicians with skills in muscular assessments - particularly muscle strength testing technologies - to unravel the complex phenomena of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). This article will focus on the diagnosis of TMD dysfuntion and its underlying neuromuscular etiology, and offer a treatment algorithm and rationale for its use in cases of TMD.
