Abstract/Notes Low back pain, a familiar experience for many people, is one of the most common conditions seen in chiropractic offices. While most causes of low back pain are the result of osteoarthritis or injury of the ligaments and muscles, the differential diagnoses list for the etiologies of low back pain is vast. Some causes of low back pain may be discovered with plain film imaging and further evaluated with advanced imaging, including computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This article will focus on four causes of low back pain that are less common than osteoarthritis and soft tissue injury, but that may first be revealed in the chiropractor's office through the se of conventional radiography. [The four causes are: primary and secondary tumors of the spine, Paget disease of bone, vertebral compression fractures, and abdominal aortic aneurysm.]
