Abstract/Notes The current consumer reality for chiropractors in Australia is related to the primary motivation of seeing a chiropractor for the relief of back pain, headaches or mechanical pain. Consumers do not on their own consider chiropractors for maintenance care, wellness or lifestyle care and instead perceive chiropractic as “alternative” therapy, in contrast to seeing physiotherapists as more mainstream. Wellbeing care is not “prevention” and it is important that the chiropractic profession in Australia begins to define its own unique terminology to clearly describe and document its approach in the lost environs of health reform. This paper argues that wellbeing care can be seen as “strengthening” the capacity of the body to live well. It may be that the term “Predictive” care may be the better term for adoption by the chiropractic profession to underpin its approach to wellbeing care. Predictive care in this context is predicting positive health progression, pro-active strengthening of the body.
