Abstract/Notes Excerpt: While it is certainly important, in my opinion, to understand Abraham's world view of the biochemistry and physiology of iodine, as clinicians I would assume we are going to be equally interested in issues of efficacy. How did actual patients respond clinically to Abraham's approach to iodine supplementation? I found four studies reporting patient response in three of Abraham's papers, "Optimum levels of iodine for greatest mental and physical health", "The concept of orthoiodosupplementation and its clinical implications", and "The historical background of the Iodine Project". As you will see, the studies can be divided into three major categories. One study did not employ iodine load testing either prior to the onset of supplementation or during supplementation to monitor progress. Another pair of studies employed iodine load testing both prior to and during supplementation. Finally, a fourth study did not employ load testing prior to supplementation but did so during the course of supplementation to monitor progress.
