Abstract/Notes Rib pain has many causes—arthritis; heavy coughing, sneezing, laughing; lung cancer; multiple myeloma; vertebral fracture; post-radiation chondritis; osteochondritis; pneumothorax; a fractured or broken rib; among other things. “With rib pain,” says Dr. Don Aspegren, “we must keep our differential diagnosis open. That’s crucial.”
