Abstract/Notes Dr. Feise looks at the effectiveness of acupuncture as a non-pharmacological tool for headaches. [Comment. A previous systematic review found insufficient evidence in support ofacupuncture for tension-type headache. Now, with six additional quality trials, the findings in this review are favorable for patients with tension-type headaches. Another recent systematic review that examined acupuncture found consistent evidence that acupuncture provides benefits for treatment of acute recurrent migraine attacks. Additionally, this review suggests that acupuncture is at least as effective as, or possibly more effective than, prophylactic drug treatment, and has fewer adverse effects. Acupuncture should be considered a treatment option for patients with tension-type headaches.]
