Abstract/Notes

Objective: This case study describes the chiropractic care of a 2 year old child with cerebral palsy who experienced improvement in his sleeping patterns, muscle strength, cognitive function and fine motor skills.

Clinical Features: A mother brought her 2 year old son into the clinic to explore chiropractic care in the hope that it would help improve his mental and physical development. The patient had undergone a number of surgeries and the mother had been told that her child would never walk. The child presented in the clinic unable to walk unassisted and with very little eye contact.

Interventions and Outcomes: The chiropractic care consisted of the protocol of Toggle, Diversified and Activator techniques that were utilized to detect vertebral subluxation. After 4 visits the patient began to walk on his own, sleep through the night, gain weight and make more eye contact. He is still under chiropractic care and continues to show improvement with each visit.

Conclusion: Cerebral palsy is a disorder that can be debilitating. The research that exists, along with this case study helps to reinforce the success of chiropractic care in children with cerebral palsy. Improvement occurred in this patient's overall health and activities of daily living while under chiropractic care.
