Abstract/Notes Objective: Review the literature on Rett syndrome to determine if chiropractic is an appropriate part of a health care team in co-managing the symptoms in the individual with Rett syndrome.

Design: Review of literature

Methods: Database search through chiropractic and medical literature. The Medline and Mantis databases were utilized in this search. Medline is a source of American and European medical journals, conferences and instructional seminars. Mantis is a chiropractic database featuring refereed and non-refereed sources.

Results: The literature suggests that chiropractic care may be an effective treatment for some of the symptoms associated with Rett syndrome.

Conclusion: Chiropractic care may be an effective treatment for symptoms associated with Rett syndrome. Chiropractors are capable of recognizing early neurodevelopmental signs of Rett syndrome. Further investigation is required to determine the role and effectiveness of chiropractic care in patients with Rett syndrome.
