Publication Type Meeting Abstract
Abstract/Notes An example of an unusual intrapelvic course of the femoral nerve observed post-mortem is presented. The nerve is seen to be acutely angulated as it passes through a slip of iliacus and the possible functional sequelae of this anatomical variant considered. While compression of the femoral nerve most commonly occurs at — or below — the inguinal ligament, this example shows that iliopsoas function should also be considered to rule out an intrapelvic aetiology. A brief case history is given of a gentleman with thigh paraesthesia and knee weakness who responded well to iliopsoas stretching and whose symptoms could well be explained by entrapment of the femoral nerve by iliacus.
