Abstract/Notes Excerpt: Chiropractors, as primary contact portal of entry regulated healthcare providers, must possess competent diagnostic and therapeutic skills, as well as sound clinical judgment, in order to optimally manage those patients they accept into their private practices. This presupposes that chiropractors obtain the requisite knowledge needed to appropriately render patient care as clinical circumstances dictate. This is nowhere more evident than the responsibilities chiropractors have with respect to managing children with autism. This article provides an overview of the diagnostic criteria, etiology, prevalence and optimal management strategies available for autistic children. This has been achieved by advancing on a similar review published a few years ago by the author and his wife (1); a review of current literature; and by expanding upon a ‘resource document’ recently published in this journal.
