Abstract/Notes Water is critical for our survival. In fact, after oxygen, it is the second most necessary life-sustaining factor. Under normal circumstances, people can live for weeks without food, but we can only survive without water for a few days.

This article, designed for the practitioner to hand out to patients, describes the place of water in human life, how much we need to drink in a day, and what happens when we are dehydrated.
