Abstract/Notes This article provides an overview of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the thoracic spine for the chiropractor. A short introduction of standard MR imaging protocols is followed by a discussion of the utilisation of common imaging sequences. The MR imaging appearance of normal thoracic spine anatomy is discussed and is illustrated with images. MR imaging of disorders affecting the thoracic spine will be discussed in part 2 of the article.
