Abstract/Notes

The following report presents the case of a 39-year-old female complaining of chest and left arm pain of seven months' duration, who underwent prolonged medical investigation and treatment without results. Differential diagnosis of chest pain, using both the medical-pathologic model and the chiropracticlosteopathic-functional model, is discussed. Attention is drawn to the role of the diaphragm and intercostal muscle dysfunction in patients who do not respond to correction of biomechanical lesions of the spine. An holistic approach to atypical complaints of chest pain is emphasized.
